Le St-Christophe
Samcon’s very first project was a two 4 plexes side by side.
I was fortunate that I grew up in the construction industry, My father and his brothers were builders since 1956.
I built this project with the help of one worker. I was 24 years old and I managed this site during the day. I would do my accounting and paperwork in the evenings and I had “open house” on Saturdays and Sundays. Since I started my construction career during a severe recession, working seven days/nights a week was normal. I enjoyed every moment. It was an extremely valuable time for me.
The project was a success thanks to a new government program offering potential clients a low interest rate of only 8.5% for 3 years.

Le Robin
Continuing in the centre sud district, my second project was a little larger.
I did work the same way as the first project with my one worker helping me and I managed the site myself during the day. I Did my accounting and paperwork during evenings and sold condos on the weekends.
Montreal was still in a ressession and we were going through a political referendum.
I cherished every client that I met and did my best to deliver the best condos that I could. I wished that I could deliver every condo perfect and achieve the highest customer satisfaction that was possible. As I succeeded with this second project, my confidence grew and I became more motivated to take on a new bigger project.

Going from 8 units to 16 units , then I purchased this new wonderful site for a total of 39 units. I started the first 11 units in the same way I always worked with one workman and I began building the rest of the 39 units. Managing the sales, construction and accounting of a 39 units was much more than I had previously undertaken. I decided to hire a foreman to help me manage the construction. This worked very well and I was able to offer good service and produce a high quality product. Customer satisfaction was high.
Montreal was started to perform better and the SCHL along with the municipality was offering various incentives for first time buyers.
I was very interested in designing attractive and very efficient buildings, my passion increased.
The market was improving and this lead me to a new larger project
YEAR: 1995
Le Coloniale
This was a very exciting time for Samcon. We were lucky to acquire this great site locating in the up and coming neighborhood of Plateau Mont Royal. At this time the real estate market’s demand in Montreal started to increase. Many potential buyers began visiting new condos in the city. People were considering buying condos versus houses in the suburbs. Samcon continued to grow and gain experience in the infill low-rise residential field.

Les Mansardes du Plateau
This site had a large old building on it that was empty for around 10 years. The area suffered because of this and I was interested in revitalizing this district. The city was very interested in seeing a new developement here. I went to see BMO bank at the time. The total project was 60 condos. Until then I had only built a total of 60 condos in my first 5 years of business. They were very happy to support Samcon and we developed the site successfully.
